Warm the oil from olives in a big pot or deep pan on medium flame. Toss in your diced onion and let it cook till it turns clear, around 5 minutes.

Throw your beef into the pot with those soft onions. Keep breaking it up while it cooks until you don't see any pink spots, usually takes 5-7 minutes.

Mix in your garlic powder, Italian herbs, hot pepper flakes if you're using them, plus some salt and pepper. Stir it all together so the flavors blend.

Dump your cut-up cabbage into the pot. Pour all the tomatoes in with their juice too. Give everything a good mix so it's all combined.

Get the mixture bubbling gently. Turn down the heat, put a lid on it, and let it cook slowly for about 25 minutes until the cabbage feels soft. Stir now and then so nothing sticks to the bottom.
