Animal Style Fries (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Making the Signature Sauce

01 - 1/2 tablespoon rice or white vinegar, adds a nice tang
02 - 2 tablespoons sweet relish
03 - 1/2 cup rich, creamy mayonnaise
04 - 2 tablespoons ketchup
05 - 1 tablespoon sugar to even out the taste
06 - 1/2 tablespoon chili flakes (optional if you like a little heat)

→ For the Fry Foundation

07 - Cheddar or American cheese, melts beautifully
08 - 1/2 bag frozen fries – grab your go-to brand

→ For the Sweet Onions

09 - 2 onions, chopped finely
10 - 1 tablespoon neutral oil (like canola or vegetable)
11 - 2 tablespoons butter
12 - 1/2 teaspoon salt

# Instructions:

01 - Pop the butter into a skillet on medium-low, adding the oil once it's melted. Toss in your cut-up onions and sprinkle with salt. Coat everything evenly and stir every so often. Let the onions slowly soften and turn golden. This takes at least 30 minutes (don't rush!). If they're browning too fast, turn the heat down a notch.
02 - While the onions are cooking, combine mayo, ketchup, vinegar, relish, sugar, and chili flakes (if using) in a small bowl. Stir well. Let it hang out so the flavors come together.
03 - Follow the directions on the package to bake your fries. Get them nice and crispy.
04 - When the fries are fresh out of the oven, cover them with grated cheddar or slices of American cheese. Place under the broiler until the cheese bubbles and gets gooey—about 3 to 5 minutes. Keep an eye on it!
05 - Take the cheesy fries, top them with your sweet, golden onions, then drizzle the sauce generously all over. Serve up right away while it's all warm and delicious!

# Notes:

01 - Patience is the trick to getting those onions perfectly golden and sweet—it’s worth it!
02 - Want a bold taste? Swap American cheese for sharp cheddar.
03 - The original sauce skips the chili flakes, but a little heat is a fun twist.
