Easy Meatless Baked Ziti (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 450 g ziti pasta
02 - 720 ml tomato-based pasta sauce
03 - 425 g whole milk ricotta cheese
04 - 225 g shredded mozzarella cheese
05 - 1 large egg
06 - 2 garlic cloves, minced
07 - 15 ml Italian seasoning
08 - 0.5 g freshly ground black pepper
09 - 100 g grated pecorino romano cheese

# Instructions:

01 - Set oven to 190°C to prepare for baking.
02 - Boil ziti in salted water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
03 - In a large bowl, combine 360 ml pasta sauce, ricotta cheese, 120 g mozzarella cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well blended.
04 - Spread 120 ml pasta sauce over the base of a 33 x 23 cm baking dish. Add cooked ziti and cheese mixture, stirring together gently. Top with the remaining 240 ml pasta sauce, sprinkle evenly with the remaining 105 g mozzarella cheese and the grated pecorino romano.
05 - Cover dish with aluminium foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil, continue baking for 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden and dish is bubbling.
06 - Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

# Notes:

01 - Allowing the dish to rest before serving helps the pasta set and makes portioning easier.
