Rub butter on the outside of each slice. Smear cream cheese all over the inside surface of the bread.

Layer a slice of Fontina cheese over the cream cheese spread on the bottom bread slice. Stack on the ham slices, followed by the dill pickles, and finish with another piece of Fontina cheese. Close the top slice of bread to complete your sandwich.

Warm a skillet or flat griddle on medium-low, putting the sandwiches buttered side touching the pan. Let them toast for 4-5 minutes until the cheese starts to melt, and the bread looks golden.

Turn the sandwich gently and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Once done, take it off the heat, slice it in half, and enjoy right away.
