Caramel Chocolate Chip Bars (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 cup (2 sticks) softened salted butter
02 - 1 cup tightly packed light brown sugar
03 - ½ cup white granulated sugar
04 - 2 large eggs
05 - 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
06 - 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
07 - 1 teaspoon baking soda
08 - 2½ cups all purpose flour
09 - 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet)
10 - One 14-ounce tin of sweetened condensed milk
11 - 10 ounces unwrapped soft caramels (about 40 pieces)
12 - 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes

# Instructions:

01 - Heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Put foil in a 9x13-inch baking pan and spray it well with cooking spray.
02 - Beat the butter with both sugars in a big bowl using an electric mixer for 2 minutes till light and fluffy. Mix in eggs, vanilla, salt and baking soda until smooth, making sure to scrape down the bowl sides when needed. Switch to low speed and mix in flour just until combined. Add chocolate chips and stir them through.
03 - Push about three-quarters of your cookie mixture into the pan you've lined.
04 - Melt the caramels with condensed milk in a medium pot over medium-low heat, stirring often until completely smooth.
05 - Pour most of the caramel (about three-quarters) over the cookie layer. Drop small teaspoon-sized bits of the leftover cookie dough on top of the caramel. Keep any extra caramel for topping ice cream later!
06 - Pop it in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes until the middle just sets.
07 - Sprinkle with sea salt flakes. Let it cool totally in the pan before cutting it into bars.

# Notes:

01 - You can drizzle the leftover caramel sauce on ice cream or your favorite treats.
